LANCE PRESENTS WESTFIELD STUDENT WITH CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL
WESTFIELD – Rep. Leonard Lance (NJ-07) presented Jaclyn Kirna of Westfield with a congressional youth service award in recognition of her extensive volunteer activities throughout Union County.
Lance presented Jaclyn, 19, with the Congressional Award Bronze Medal, which is one of Congress’ highest honors for youth service. To earn the award, young people must set and achieve personally challenging goals in public service, personal development and physical fitness.
Jaclyn is a sophomore at Bucknell University and the daughter of Oliver and Robin Kirna.
“Jaclyn is a sharp and dedicated young person who is deserving of this honor,” Lance said. “She sets a positive example for other young people, and I’m proud of her and impressed by her accomplishments.”
“I am very proud to serve the people of my community and to receive this special congressional award,” Jaclyn said after receive the award.
To earn the award, Jaclyn gave over 100 hours of Voluntary Public Service by volunteering at the Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside (NJ) and also building a house for a needy family in El Triunfo, Guatemala. She also taught swim lessons as a lifeguard and worked as a soccer referee.
