Lance Backs Billions More for Vets Care
WASHINGTON,D.C. --- Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today supported S. 114, appropriating $2 billion of additional funds for the successful Veterans Choice Program.
“The Veterans Choice Program has transformed medical care for our Nation’s veterans. The program has allowed veterans to bypass long wait-times and be spared travel to distant care facilities. Instead, veterans can now seek care closer to home. Veterans in New Jersey who live too far from our V.A. hospitals and clinics are using the Choice program to visit doctors and specialists in their community and closer to their support network. The failures of the Veterans Administration are well-established, but the Choice program has started to turn the numbers around. This program is working and needs continued funding,” said Lance after the unanimous bipartisan vote.
Instituted in the wake of the wait-time scandal, the Veterans Choice Program allows veterans to seek private care outside of the Veterans Administration system. Choice appointments are up dramatically. There have been 18 million Choice appointments so far this year — 3.8 million more than last year, or a 26% increase, according to the V.A. claims system. The additional funding allows the continued use of the program for millions of veterans.
