Lance Announces Major Progress Towards Solution to "Doc Fix"
WASHINGTON, D.C. -Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ 07) today announced the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee has advanced a bipartisan solution to Medicare’s doctor payment system.
“Today we are one step closer to a permanent solution that will strengthen the Medicare system and ensure physicians continue to provide high quality care to our senior citizens," said Lance, a member of the Health Subcommittee that advanced the legislation. “I thank the committee’s leadership including Chairman Upton and Chairman Pitts for working in a bipartisan capacity on this important issue.”
The Energy and Commerce-drafted measure would repeal the Medicare sustainable growth rate (SGR) and replace it with a new fee-for-service system designed so that providers develop better quality measures to provide efficient care.
The Seventh District lawmaker has hosted a number of roundtables, constituent discussions and town hall meetings where doctors, providers and patients have expressed their ideas on how best to address the so-called "doc fix" issue. “I am pleased to be part of this bipartisan effort to reform and modernize the Medicare physician payment system,” Lance concluded.
